Grilled Cheese Recipe

This grilled cheese recipe is a classic and a favorite for many. It's great for lunch, dinner, or even breakfast. Make it your own by adding a few slices of tomato and avocado to the sandwich. Or how about some bacon? The possibilities are endless!

  • A skillet (cast iron works best) with a lid
  • A spatula or tongs
  • Butter knife or other thin knife (not serrated)


  • 8 slices of bread
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheeseĀ 
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives
  • Salt and pepper to tasteĀ 


  • 1. Heat a pan over medium heat and add butter, garlic powder and salt.
  • 2. Add bread slices and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 2 minutes per side.
  • 3. Remove from pan and place on a plate in a warm oven while you prepare the cheese sauce.
  • 4. In a small saucepot over medium-low heat, combine milk, cheddar cheese, flour and pepper and cook until thickened, stirring constantly (about 5 minutes).
  • 5. Remove from heat and stir in spinach until it wilts (about 1 minute).
  • 6. Place two pieces of bread on a plate with the insides facing up (to fit your sandwich). Spread some of the spinach mixture onto one piece of bread followed by some mozzarella cheese slices (to taste). Top with another piece of bread with the insides facing down to complete your grilled cheese sandwich!
